Citrix Online just presented GoView, a tool to record and share screenshots with working video and audio recordings, at the DEMO 2009 conference.

The idea is to take whatever you have on the screen and quickly capture it, said Elizabeth Cholawsky, vice president of products and services at Citrix Online in Santa Barbara, Calif.

That part alone is not unique. TechSmith’s SnagIt, for instance, does the same thing already with its screen capture software. But GoView takes it a step further. You can literally capture your actions on the screen as a video, including movements of the mouse cursor and the opening of web sites and applications. Cholawsky showed how you can record the steps that another person needs to take in a process for training pursposes. For example, you can walk your employees through how to fill out an expense form. You can even speak into a microphone to provide a voice-over narrative as a video proceeds on screen. TechSmith said it has other products, Camtasia Studio, Jing, and Jing Pro that pretty much do the same thing.

With GoView, everything you do and say goes into a single video file. You can then modify that file or share it as a URL with your team. In editing, you can easily remove unwanted parts of the video or audio to share only the most relevant and helpful content.

With this tool, users can quickly show others how to complete step-by-step actions on their computers in a clear and simple fashion.
